Aleksandra Mir could be accused of not practicing the art of security throughout. While much of the community New York art is strictly limited to wallsBeauty white borders free gallery, Cold War Hot Stuff and Real Estate flowers belong to a series of twenty drawings created by Aleksandra Mir and a large team of assistants Sixteen years - mostly students and graduates of art school - in part of a marathon non-stop to Sharpie "held in a character study of temporary East Village, New York, during the month of May 2005. Each book contains eight sheets of paper, form a landscape format, the common characteristic that a card is described in the United States.
Retro text and motifs reminiscent of 1960s American idealist that the project, the baby boomers, Civil War, travel, space race, the Bicentennial, love and God have been outlined by the MIR during the night and completed by his assistants working in shifts day and night using markers Black Sharpie pens. The process of collaboration and the use of unusual materials - in this case a humble home marker - are also part working practices of the artist.
Free Beauty is a commentary on the Civil War, a bloody conflict, dominated by the issue of slavery which began in 1860 when South Confederate States declared its independence and claimed the right to secede from the Union. The Southern states are here called "Free" letters written in the stars of the country while the northern states are strung in a strip long and continuous loop and the word "beauty". Cold War Hot Stuff uses the same device - star-shaped snowflakes above the bars in the shape of the sun below - To create a contrast of hot and cold light and darkness, and in a more overtly political, good and evil. Real Real Estate in Florida, probably the most psychedelic three cards of the designated official flower of each state.
